Site Development Underway!

After 1 year, 7 months and 1 day, we received approval on our site plan construction drawings from the City of Durham! We were originally told to expect 11 months for approval.

What took so long? Well...29 days after we submitted our site plan (in February 2020,) the City had a malware attack and shut down for a month. By the time they reopened, employees were working from home due to COVID. And just like many of us, a large number of reviewers were juggling childcare.

In addition, we used Low Impact Development as a method for limiting the stormwater control measures on our site. Little did we know, we were only the second project to use this method in Durham. (The other was a park!) There were some learning curves figuring out how to use this method. In the end, we decided to use our conservation easement as a stormwater control measure. No one in Durham has ever done that before! As a result, Weaving Water will not have a stormwater detention pond and will not have to cut down our gorgeous trees to contour the land to funnel to such a pond. We had to jump through hoops and beg a surveyor to prepare the necessary paperwork for the City. As with many things, our unique approach to land preservation and sustainable development slowed the process down.

We are sure it will be worth the wait!
